Liz's Story

Liz is a member of our Nutrition Services team and has been a part of Headwaters for over 30 years.
Liz is a member of our Nutrition Services team and has been a part of Headwaters for over 30 years. Liz became a member of the team in 1989 as the Supervisor of Nutrition Services in the Dufferin Area Hospital. Thirty years ago, patients filled out menus and sent them to the Nutrition Office. Meal trays were assembled by a hot steam table service then delivered by Dietary Aids. Everything was manual and customized.

As a member of the Nutrition Services team, Liz ensures that patients receive the meals they need according to  their diet, that staff follow standards and procedures that ensure food safety and that the department runs smoothly.

In 1993 Headwaters was completed and patients, staff, volunteers and physicians moved to the new hospital location. The Nutrition Services changed with the times, as did the method of meal service. The department transitioned to a cold plate rethermalization system where cooked food is plated and food carts heat it to the proper temperatures. This approach allows for better quality of food.

Over the years, Liz has seen a great deal of change at Headwaters, including the introduction of computers to replace manual procedures! Liz believes we all play an important role in patient care and contribute to patients leaving with a positive experience. Sometimes just that little extra effort makes that happen.
