Our volunteers provide over 44,000 hours of service each year
Volunteers are an integral part of HHCC – making sure the hospital is a comforting place for everyone and that it runs smoothly and efficiently. With a focus on customer service and quality patient care, each year our volunteers provide over 22,000 hours of service supporting patient care and over 22,000 hours running successful enterprises. We simply couldn’t provide the level of care we do without the invaluable contributions of our volunteers.
We currently have volunteer opportunities on weekdays, evenings and weekends in:
Information Desk and Patient Escort
Volunteers welcome patients and visitors to the hospital at the Information Desk, provide directions, run various errands and transport discharged patients to the lobby. This role requires a lot of walking, the ability to push wheelchairs and stretchers, and good communication skills.
Volunteers support patients, families and their friends during their time in the Emergency Department.
Tasks might include: answering questions, directing patients to the triage area, handing out non-medical forms and escorting family members to and from patient area during test and informing them of the patients progress through the Emergency Department. Good communication skills and the ability to manage difficult situations are required for this role.
Outpatient Clinic Support
There are various clinics throughout the hospital where volunteers assist the patients and/or their families during their visit. Clinics include: fracture, dialysis, cancer, day surgery, endoscopy and eye as well as a greeter in our Ambulatory Care unit. These clinics operate Monday to Friday.
Retail & Fundraising
Our dedicated volunteers are also philanthropists – assisting in:
- the Auxiliary Gift Shop and Coffee Bar at the hospital
- the Seconds Count Thrift Shop located in downtown Orangeville
- Event and committee support for various fundraising activities including the Teddy Bear Clinic, Candy Cane Fair and the Headwaters House Tours
Since 1986, the Headwaters Health Care Auxiliary has raised over $4,000,000 in revenue to support the purchase of new equipment at the hospital and contributions to larger capital campaigns.
Did you know volunteering is good for your health? Studies have shown that when you shift your thinking onto others, your stress level starts to decrease, your immune system is strengthened, and your overall sense of life satisfaction increases. Take a look at this infographic
