Carolyn's Story

Carolyn, Laboratory Services, has been a part of the Headwaters team for many years.
Carolyn, Laboratory Services, has been a part of the Headwaters team for many years. She started working here in June of 1979 as a Technologist in the lab. As an Orangeville native, this was an exciting opportunity to stay close to home and use all the skills she was trained in (Hematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Transfusion Medicine).

In 2010 Carolyn took on a new role as Senior Technologist of Quality and LIS (Meditech Lab Information System). In 2014 she became the Interim Laboratory Manager and assumed this role on a permanent basis in 2015.

Over the past forty years, Carolyn has seen a great deal change at Headwaters and healthcare in general. The most positive was the transition from a state of “doing the same, just more and with newer and better equipment” to a state of “working to a standard of care that continually evolves and includes ever improving best practices as well as holding to the highest quality standards”. This shift significantly improved patient care and safety.

Carolyn and five of her colleagues have worked alongside one another as Technologists in the lab for over twenty years; learning, sharing and growing as people and professionals. They have gone above and beyond to support not only their patients but each other.

As Carolyn prepares for retirement this year and looks back on her time at Headwaters, her fondest memories are those spent with colleagues. It was thrilling be part of situations where multiple disciplines were required to work under great pressure as a team to ultimately achieve a positive patient outcome. To experience that kind of teamwork was an immeasurable gift.

Congratulations on entering this next chapter of your life and thank you for your years of service to Headwaters!
