NEWS RELEASE: Headwaters Health Care Centre receives $6.643 million from Ontario for the permanent ongoing funding of 13 hospital beds

ORANGEVILLE, ON – November 24, 2023 – Today at Headwaters Health Care Centre, Sylvia Jones, Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Dufferin-Caledon announced an annual increase of $6.643 million from Ontario Health to permanently fund 13 additional medical/surgical hospital beds at Headwaters. These 13 beds were first made available to patients in response to urgent needs during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Today’s announcement of the permanent funding announcement shows Ontario’s commitment to securing greater access to care for Headwaters patients.
Headwaters is now funded for 86 beds, which includes the 13 additional medical/surgical beds for patients with various medical conditions, such as recovery from surgical procedures, critical illness, and chronic conditions.
Dufferin-Caledon is projected to be the second highest growth area in Ontario at a growth rate of 46.3% between 2021 and 2041. Headwaters is committed to supporting our growing community by providing access to more specialized, life-saving care, right here, close to home.

Additional Priorities and Areas of Focus

Earlier this year, Headwaters Health Care Centre unveiled its Clinical Priority Plan (CPP). With a focus on addressing the most urgent clinical needs and anticipating the growing populations, the CPP emphasizes improvements needed in Emergency Services, Geriatrics, Mental Health and Substance Use, Obstetrics, and Paediatrics while also focusing on quality improvements across all areas of the hospital.
Headwaters’ People Strategy Plan also launched this year, focusing on the health, well-being, safety and accessibility of its staff, physicians, and volunteers.
Looking ahead, Headwaters is actively developing its Strategic Plan for 2024-2029.  This plan will establish a shared vision, values, and priorities for the next five years, ensuring the hospital's continued commitment to excellence in patient care and community health. Our vibrant community and partners provided valuable input as we continue to develop our new strategic plan.
To further elevate the quality of care provided, the Headwaters Health Care Foundation launched the SMART Headwaters campaign. This ambitious $18 million fundraising initiative, which has now raised $12 million of its goal, SMART Headwaters seeks to acquire an MRI machine and other vital medical technologies to enhance diagnostic capabilities and elevate patient care within our community. The commitment of our donors allows our teams to have access to the facilities and essential equipment to provide the very best care to the community.
