Anne's Story

This year Anne, Rehabilitation Clerk, celebrates her 35th Anniversary at Headwaters.
This year Anne, Rehabilitation Clerk, celebrates her 35th Anniversary at Headwaters. In 1984, Anne started working in our Environmental Services Department and then went on to be part of the Registration Team supporting Physiotherapy and Diagnostic Imaging until finally transferring to her current role in Rehab/Ambulatory Care.

Over the past 35 years the hospital has had seven CEO’s and has gone by three different names: Dufferin Area Hospital, Dufferin Caledon Health Care Corporation and Headwaters Health Care Centre.

Living in a small town and working at the local hospital has allowed Anne to get to know many people around the community and form friendships both inside and outside of the hospital.

When asked what her favorite memory at Headwaters was, Anne remarked, “It’s hard to pinpoint one favorite memory for the past 35 years. There are so many memories.”

On May 31, 1985 a Tornado went through Dufferin County and all staff were called into the hospital. Anne remembers the entire community banning together to help.

Anne also fondly recalls when the hospital moved to its current location. The entire staff team had several site visits to see the progress and truly felt part of the redevelopment; from picking our colours to looking at layouts. The most profound moment was the day the team was finally able to help move patients from the old hospital the new one. Being part of that transition was something Anne will never forget.

The two people that Anne have worked the longest with at Headwaters are Mary, Director, Health Systems Integration and Brenda, Environmental Services. Mary, when they first met was a Physiotherapist and later became the manager of the department. Anne recalls how great of Manager Mary was – very personal and caring. Anne trained Brenda when she started working at the hospital – Brenda still uses this training today in the Environmental Services Department.

Headwaters has had a tremendous impact on Anne and her entire family. Three generations of women from Anne’s family have shared their time and talents with us:
  • Angela, her mother, worked here as a Physiotherapist from 1961 – 1985
  • Susan, her sister, worked here in the Environmental Services Department
  • Cassandra, her daughter, worked in Switchboard, SARS Screening, Parking, Arthritis Data Entry and as a Chiropody Student
  • Jessica, her daughter, also did Data Entry for the Arthritis Department for a few summers

Thank you, Anne and family, for sharing your legacy of care and compassion with us – our community is richer because of each of you.
