“We have to remember, we were all students at one time, and if we don’t support them, we aren’t going to have anyone to take over for us down the road,” said Lois.
Having worked at our hospital for 32 years, Dr. Paul Scotton, Chief of Emergency Medicine, has shared in many of the more difficult times in our history. This pandemic was certainly a challenge unlike any other he had experienced in his career.
Coming from a long line of family members who have volunteered at our hospital, as well as having given birth to two of her three children here, Pamela knew this was where she wanted to give back.
When Lisa, a technician in our Pharmacy department discovered that a cancer patient at our hospital would pay out of pocket for their treatment she didn’t hesitate to step in and find a solution.
In the early hours of a January morning, life took an unexpected turn for Tom Porter. A routine trip to the bathroom turned into a cascade of health challenges that would test his resilience and determination.
For two years, Auxiliary volunteers were unable to be in the hospital. Their thrift shop netted amazing results.
Wanting to be around to watch her grow he was inspired to visit his family doctor for a checkup to make sure his health was in order. Mike hadn’t seen his family doctor in over a decade.
Jennifer manages the TeleCheck program that is affiliated with Headwaters. The community-based program is a free, confidential check-in service that supports adults 55+ living independently in their homes.
Thirty years ago, while Donna’s mother was in palliative care in a different hospital, volunteers did many small things to help. It was an extremely difficult time and a memory that stayed with her. When she retired and was looking for an additional opportunity to volunteer, our hospital was a natural choice for her.
The stress of the pandemic had taken a toll and forced Crystal to rethink what she was truly passionate about.
“I have always been intrigued by Dialysis and began taking a course at Humber College on nephrology nursing. When a position in Dialysis became available at Headwaters, I felt it was the right time and the right fit for me,” recalled Crystal.
