Mike's Story

Mike, a member of our Facilities Team joined the Headwaters family in 1986 right out of high school. Starting in Nutrition Services, Mike would deliver patient trays and wash dishes. A year later, he joined the Environmental Services Team, where he remained for 11 years.
 
In 1997, Mike went back to school to get his Gas Fitters license. Those were long days; apprenticing at the hospital during the day and going to school in Toronto at night.
 
Mike officially joined the Facilities Team as a licensed Gas Fitter in 2000 - a role he has held for the past 19 years. Proudly, Mike remarked, “We repair anything that is not directly patient related; beds, wheelchairs, stretchers.”
 
There have been many impactful moments over the years, but the most significant for Mike, was the hospitals transition to our new home on 100 Rolling Hills Drive. When you are part of the team responsible for the building everyone is working in and that building changes - it is a huge undertaking and a rewarding challenge.
 
For Mike, “No two days are the same; this job is always different; something new is always coming in” and that’s what makes the job worth doing.
 
Mike has spent 29 of the past 33 years at Headwaters with his Facilities colleague and friend Dirk. As soft-spoken, humble men they both shy away from any spotlight – including this very feature!
 
When Mike isn’t at Headwaters he can be found fishing on the Nottawasaga.
