Meet Cara : COVID-19 volunteer and design extraordinaire

When Ontario shutdown in late March due to COVID-19, Cara thought the hospital might be in need of additional support and resources. With a background in graphic design and photography, Cara reached out to see if she could help the hospitals Communications and Stakeholder Relations Department.

“It was more of a reaction than a decision. I remember watching the news, hearing stories from my family back home in Europe, and suddenly reaching for my phone to message the hospital,” remarked Cara.

In the early days of the pandemic Cara created infographics to help illustrate our Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) resources.  Cara helped to convert complex medical information into easy to navigate visuals. Cara also developed social media images on what to do should someone feel ill.

“All designs need to be human centered to have a positive effect. The designs for Headwaters were the most human centered creations I have made – literally. They weren’t created for selling something, they were created to inform people to protect them and their loved ones. The experience has definitely affected me, it’s very humbling,” said Cara.

When Ontario moved into Phase 2, Cara provided designs for reopening including social distancing posters, website banners and social media graphics. All of these were in harmony with the hospitals brand identity. Cara also did the graphic design and layout for the Dufferin County Paramedics’ Annual Report.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Providing value and support to a team of people who are caring for an entire community made me look at things from another angle. I am so grateful for Headwaters being here to look after us during these weird times. It was the least I could do to help,” recalled Cara.

Cara has gone above and beyond by sharing her time and talents during a truly challenging time for our Dufferin-Caledon community and across the globe. We couldn’t be more grateful.
