Kim's Story

Meet Kim, Registered Practical Nurse.

At the age of 16 Kim began nursing at a Long-Term Care facility in Owen Sound. Her family made the move Orangeville in 1981 and she began working at Fountain View Retirement Home which eventually became Avalon Retirement Lodge.

Kim graduated from the Health Care Aide Program at Georgian College in 1983 and as part of her continuing education went back to college part-time and graduated in 2001 from the Nursing Program.

In 2004, Kim joined the Headwaters family at the Shelburne District Hospital and has worked with geriatric patients for most of her nursing career. As part of the great nursing team on E-Wing, Kim is proud to care for seniors.

“I enjoy hearing about their life stories. Geriatric care is different in that you are seeing long-term care for many diseases, debilitating stroke patients and acquired brain injuries. These are people whom their families can’t care for them at home,” said Kim.

When asked what her favorite memory at Headwaters was, Kim said, “Working at the Shelburne site. One Christmas we had a young palliative patient with small children (6 and 8 years old). The staff came up with a plan to decorate the patient’s room with stockings and gifts. I will never forget the look on the patients face and her families. The best gift is always giving,” recalled Kim.

Thank you, Kim, for your lifelong commitment to caring for seniors in our community and beyond.
