Headwaters’ Mammothon Highlights Life-Saving Power of Early Breast Cancer Screening

ORANGEVILLE, ON (October 28, 2025) At Headwaters Health Care Centre, prevention took centre stage this October as the hospital rallied the community around breast cancer awareness. The month-long initiative featured educational campaigns and culminated in a 12-hour marathon of mammograms on October 24. The “mammothon” highlighted the importance of early detection and reaffirmed HHCC’s commitment to supporting women across Dufferin-Caledon in taking this vital step toward prevention.

“Early detection is a vital part of breast cancer diagnosis and in saving lives. We know that one in eight women in Canada will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and breast cancer is most treatable when caught early,” said Kim Delahunt, President and CEO of Headwaters Health Care Centre.

“We were fully booked throughout the 12-hour mammothon, with women from across our community coming in for their mammograms, some arriving with their mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, friends, and neighbours. It’s incredibly inspiring to see our community come together to take this important step in prevention and self-care,” added Delahunt.

The community mammothon saw Headwaters conducting non-stop mammograms from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., screening 42 women in the community, with up to 75% of those women getting a mammogram for the first time.

On October 3, Headwaters launched Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a successful staff mammothon, providing on-site mammograms to 37 employees in order to inspire community members to follow suit.

Headwaters’ mammography program uses state-of-the-art digital radiography, is fully accredited by the Canadian Association of Radiologists and proudly participates in the Ontario Breast Screening Program. Women between the ages of 40 and 74 can self-refer, booking directly without a physician’s referral by calling 519-941-2410 ext. 2842.
