Headwaters Health Care Centre Celebrates Grand Opening of First MRI Suite in Dufferin-Caledon

Orangeville, ON (October 14, 2025) Headwaters Health Care Centre marked a historic milestone today with the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the Morningview Foundation MRI Suite, the first MRI facility in Dufferin-Caledon. This new suite will dramatically improve access to advanced diagnostic imaging for more than 140,000 residents across the region, reducing wait times and eliminating the need for patients to travel outside the community for scans.

"This is more than the unveiling of advanced technology. It’s a testament to what we can achieve when we listen to our community, invest in our future, and work together to improve the lives of those we serve,” said Kim Delahunt, President & CEO of Headwaters Health Care Centre. “With this new MRI, we are not just enhancing our diagnostic capabilities; we are reducing wait times, improving access, and ensuring that our patients receive the answers they need with speed and accuracy.”

The event brought together health care leaders, donors, government officials, and community partners to celebrate the culmination of years of advocacy, planning, and collaboration. The new addition was made possible through the support of the province of Ontario and the fundraising efforts of the Headwaters Health Care Foundation.

The suite, located in the Ambulatory Care wing, features a patient-friendly design informed by Patient Family Advisory Partners and offers abdominal/pelvic, brain/spine, breast, and musculoskeletal MRIs for patients ages eight and up.

"The new MRI suite at Headwaters is a game-changer for Dufferin-Caledon families. As one of 50 new MRI machines funded by our government, this will enable our community to access vital diagnostic imaging closer to home, for years to come. Thank you to everyone who helped us achieve this historic milestone,” said Sylvia Jones, MPP for Dufferin-Caledon and Ontario's Deputy Premier and Minister of Health.

The MRI suite was made possible through the Smart Headwaters campaign, a transformative $18 million fundraising initiative led by Headwaters Health Care Foundation. “The Morningview Foundation MRI Suite is the result of extraordinary generosity and vision from our donors, including the Morningview Foundation, which matched community donations up to $3 million. The Smart Headwaters campaign raised $18 million to bring vital medical technology, including MRI, to our region. This is truly a community effort for community benefit,” said K.C. Carruthers, President & CEO of Headwaters Health Care Foundation.

Patient Family Advisory Partners, who act as the voice of patients and families at Headwaters, were actively involved in the project. “I’m proud to volunteer as a Patient and Family Partner and be part of the MRI project team. I was involved from start to finish, ensuring that my voice as a patient was considered every step of the way. This project is a great example of how collaboration between patients and hospitals can lead to exceptional outcomes,” said Sherri McLean, Patient Family Advisor Partner, Headwaters Health Care Centre.

The suite began completing scans on September 30, 2025, and is expected to conduct approximately 8,000 scans per year. Headwaters previously referred out approximately 4,000 MRI scans annually to out-of-region facilities.

“This MRI is more than just a machine; it’s a magnet for new specialists and advanced care. It will help us attract expertise we’ve never had before, expanding the range of subspecialties available right here in Orangeville. It’s a major step forward, not just for Headwaters, but for health care across Dufferin-Caledon,”said Dr. Asad Naqvi, Chief of Radiology, Headwaters Health Care Centre.
