Excellent Care, Close to Home: 200 PICCs and Counting at Headwaters

An exciting milestone has hit Headwaters Health Care Centre, 200 PICCs and counting. Meet Sara and Terry, the nurses behind this milestone. 

“It is a real confidence booster to hit this milestone. For the patients, 200+ have not had to leave our area to have this procedure done!  Patient satisfaction has increased and the financial burden to the health care system is decreased. I have been nursing at HHCC for 37 years.  This is the opportunity that I am most proud of and grateful to be a part of.” - Terry MacDonald 

“I know from doing the PICC's alongside with Terry that we both have gained tremendous knowledge and a lot of confidence from when we started the PICC program back in October 2023. The PICC program has been so instrumental to the hospital. We no longer have to send these patients to another site. We also have to thank  Dr Lane-Smith's support of the program. He has been a champion for both Terry and me. We also have to thank Tania, our manager, for her constant support and cheerleader for the success of the PICC program. With the success of the program that we will be adding a third person to our team. We look forward to continuing and growing our program.” - Sara Charnley 

This milestone is more than just a number, it represents improved access to care, reduced travel for patients, and a stronger health system for our community. Thanks to the dedication of Sara, Terry, and the ongoing support of their colleagues and leadership, Headwaters’ PICC program continues to grow. With a third team member soon joining, the future looks bright for providing excellent care, close to home.
