Butterfly Bereavement Project Art Installation Returns in November in Recognition of National Grief & Bereavement Days

Inglewood, ON (November 6, 2025) In recognition of National Grief and Bereavement Day, and National Children’s Grief Awareness Day during November, Bethell Hospice, in collaboration with Hills of Headwaters Collaborative Ontario Health Team (OHT), Headwaters Health Care Centre (HHCC), Town of Caledon and Town of Orangeville, is pleased to announce that this year’s Butterfly Bereavement Project art installations will be displayed exhibiting more than 3,500 butterflies. The butterflies, created by Dufferin/Caledon residents, represent the hope and transformation experienced by those on a grief and bereavement journey. They also serve as a reminder to care for those grieving their loved ones.

Starting the week of November 10th, the Dufferin/Caledon community is invited to admire the array of personalized paper butterflies on display at Headwaters’ Ambulatory Care Wing, Orangeville Public Library, Mill Street, and Town of Caledon Town Hall Atrium.

Margaret Paan, Executive Director for Bethell Hospice, comments, “Bethell Hospice is so proud that the Butterfly Project, originally launched in 2022, has taken off and spread across the entire regions of Dufferin and Caledon. This art installation is a testament that grief touches us all. As the only Hospice in Dufferin/Caledon, we can reach out and support the grief and bereavement needs of the community.”

In collaboration with several community partners, such as King Nursing Home, Caledon Meals on Wheels, and Dufferin Area Family Health Team, more than 3,500 butterflies have been decorated and collected as part of the installation.

Kim Delahunt, President and CEO at Headwaters Health Care Centre, speaks about the Butterfly Project, “Headwaters is honoured to once again host the 2025 Butterfly Bereavement Project in our beautiful Ambulatory Care hallway. This initiative reflects our deep commitment to supporting patients and families through their grief journeys. Together with our valued health system partners, we stand alongside our community with compassion and care during life’s most difficult moments.”

The Mayor of Orangeville, Lisa Post, remarks on the community support, “The annual Butterfly Bereavement Project art installation is a profound opportunity to honour and remember our loved ones and support our community members amid their grief and bereavement journeys. This event underlines the strength and unity within our community, as we acknowledge and care for those in mourning.”
