Echocardiogram

An echocardiogram (echo) is a painless ultrasound test involving a technologist moving a transducer (wand) with gel on your chest.  The use of sound waves creates a moving picture of your heart, revealing its shape & size, structure, wall thickness, and how well it pumps and moves blood. It helps diagnose heart conditions like valve problems, heart muscle disease, and damage from heart attacks by showing chambers, valves, and blood flow. The standard test is non-invasive.

An echocardiogram typically takes 30 to 60 minutes

Other names for this test are: Heart ultrasound, Heart sonogram.
