Mental health at Headwaters

If you have an urgent adult mental health emergency, please visit the Emergency Department for immediate attention and an assessment by a Crisis Specialist, available seven days a week, in partnership with Canadian Mental Health Association. Dufferin Child & Family Services continues to partner with Headwaters to support pediatric mental health patients.

Depending on your assessment, you may transfer to inpatient services at one of Ontario's Schedule 1 facilities or transition home with referrals to community supports and resources.

Community integrated response

The mental health journey is an integrated crisis response and co‑ordination of services. Headwaters is part of The Community Crisis Integrated Team, which provides mental health resources within Dufferin County and Caledon.

Mobile Mental Health and Addictions Team (MCRT)

To enhance our community response to mental health and addictions, Headwaters has partnered with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to offer mobile support for individuals experiencing a moderate to severe mental health or addiction crisis in the community. The Dufferin Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) consists of a co-response team: an OPP officer and a Crisis Specialist from the hospital.

The MCRT team is deployed when a call is received by the OPP, as part of the emergency response.

Services include:

  • Joint mobile crisis response
  • Short-term crisis intervention
  • Community referrals
  • Follow up supports and connection to ongoing services
  • Education for patients, their families and supports
  • Effective and efficient police hospital transitions including facilitation of emergency services and interventions should hospital assessment and/or admission be required
  • Outreach to individuals who may be reluctant to seek mental health and addiction services

MCRT builds upon the existing services and strengths of our community to address a gap in the service system through improved collaboration between the sectors; enhanced transfers of care, including police-hospital transitions; and increased access to the services for those experiencing crisis. This creates more positive outcomes for individuals and supports appropriate utilization of available community resources.

Program funding is granted from the Solicitor General’s Mobile Crisis Response Team Enhancement.
