Thank you to the community for filling hearts and bodies: last food donation will be accepted on June 30

ORANGEVILLE, ON – June 22, 2020 – Headwaters Health Care Centre would like to thank the countless local businesses, families and individuals who supported hospital staff and physicians during this pandemic. The hospital has begun a gradual resumption of procedures and surgeries and as a result, food and beverage donations can no longer be accepted past June 30.

“Throughout COVID-19 I had the privilege of handing out donated food to feed our hungry team and to bring home to their families. Week after week I was blown away by the outpouring of support,” said Reverend Barbara Moulton.

“Some shifts, we don’t have a minute to stop and think about food. Throughout this pandemic I rarely had a shift without food. I could take a few minutes to stop, refuel, enjoy a hot meal and get back to helping patients and saving lives. I felt like the community really appreciated how hard we were working and the risk we were putting our families in,” said Olivia Fairclough, Registered Nurse.

As the hospitals starts to resume programs and services, while food can no longer be accepted, the need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is ongoing. PPE supports the COVID-19 Assessment Centre, regular patient visits, reopening programs and in-hospital procedures. Specifically, the hospital is still in need of:
  • Ear-loop masks
  • N95 masks
  • Gowns
“It has been truly touching to see so many people come forward to support our hospital and the confidence they have in all of us to get the job done. We remain vigilant in maintaining our inventory of PPE and I would like to acknowledge everyone who has donated to date. Saying thank you just doesn’t feel like enough when you look at what this community has done” said Kim Delahunt, President & CEO of Headwaters Health Care Centre.

Deliveries of PPE can be made to Headwaters’ shipping and receiving department at 100 Rolling Hills Drive, Orangeville, Ontario L9W 4X9. Monday to Friday from 8am to 3:30pm. All donations will be inspected, assessed, cleaned and disinfected (where possible). An online donation form is available on the hospital’s website to make the drop off easier.

In addition to food and PPE, hundreds of community members also contributed funds to the hospitals COVID-19 response and our ongoing priority needs. “As we begin to reopen, your support is more important than ever. Our list of surgical needs, obstetrics-related equipment, and hospital-wide needs such as stretchers and beds, is long,” said Dora Boylen-Pabst, CEO, Headwaters Health Care Foundation.

The acts of kindness from across Dufferin-Caledon have filled hearts and bodies. The hospital is grateful to be part of such an amazing and thoughtful community.
