Are all cases of Influenza A H1N1 severe?
No. Most of the cases of H1N1are mild.

What are the symptoms of H1N1?
H1N1 is a respiratory illness that causes
symptoms similar to those of the regular seasonal flu including: 
  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Lack of appetite
  • Coughing
  • Sore throat
  • Some people with H1N1 have also reported vomiting and diarrhea

How can I protect myself and my family?

  • Get your flu shot annually
  • Practice good hand hygiene at all times
  • Cough into your sleeve, not your hands
  • Disinfect all surfaces and shared utensils, particularly when a family member is unwell
  • Avoid public places if you feel unwell

What should I do if I'm not feeling well?
Call your family doctor or Telehealth at 1-866-797-0000.

What is a flu assessment clinic?
The hospital has a flu assessment clinic at 150 Rolling Hills Drive (next to the hospital) to assess individuals who what to know if they have H1N1. The clinic does not provide vaccines. The clinic physician may give you a prescription for Tamiflu, an anti-viral medication that if given within 2 days of experiencing symptoms will help reduce the severity of the flu virus symptoms.

Is the hospital still open for visitors?
Yes. However, if you are feeling at all unwell, please do not visit.

 Is there emergency service?
The emergency department is open as always for those patients requiring emergency treatment. Please see your family doctor for all other conditions. 

Are all surgeries still on schedule?
Yes. If you are experiencing fever, chills, headache, a cough, sore throat or muscle aches call Telehealth and reschedule your surgery.

Can I still come to my scheduled appointment?
If you do not have flu-like symptoms you may come in for your appointment. If you have influenza-like illness call Telehealth and reschedule your appointment for when you are symptom free.

What do I need to know before I come to Emergency?
When you arrive clean your hands with hand sanitizer provided. If you are experiencing respiratory illness put on a mask. Staff and volunteer greeters in the ER will be wearing orange masks with attached eye protection. Please clean hands frequently when touching public areas, before and after eating, and when entering and leaving the hospital.

 If my relative/friend is staying in hospital, how can I be sure s/he’ll be cared for?
All patients who need to remain in hospital are being cared for.

I volunteer at your facility. Do you still want me to come in?
Yes please.

I provide pastoral care to patients. Should I still visit patients?
Yes, as long as you are feeling well.

I’m expecting to deliver my baby within the next few days. Will I be able to have my baby at your hospital?
Yes.
