Student Volunteer Opportunities

Must Be 16 Years Old to volunteer in areas that do not provide Patient Care
Must be18 Years Old to volunteer in areas providing Patient Care

Our student volunteer program provides an opportunity for students who have a genuine interest and concern in helping others and wish to offer their time and energy to assist hospital staff in carrying out their duties. Student volunteers, in turn, receive valuable insight into the operations of a hospital that can help them in choosing a career or adding important experience for employment or post-secondary school applications.

Volunteering can help students develop interpersonal skills with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds. Volunteering will encourage students to become actively involved in making positive contributions to their community and is designed to promote good citizenship and help make students aware of the role they can play in their community.

High School students wanting to earn their required 40 hours of volunteer work, one of the Ministry of Education requirements for their high school diploma, can participate in hospital special events: including our House Tour (every other year), Candy Cane Fair in November and Teddy Bear Clinic in May.

Student Volunteers must have a sense of commitment and must be able to commit to their assigned shift on a regular basis.

High School students wishing to volunteer for a hospital Auxiliary event may call the Auxiliary office (519) 941-2410 ext. 2268 for more information.
