Respiratory Therapy
At HHCC we have nine Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT’s) and Certified Respiratory Educators (CRE). HHCC has one Respiratory Cardio-pulmonary Technologist (RCPT) and one Certified Asthma Educator (CAE). Each RRT holds a license issued by the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO) and participates in an ongoing Quality Assurance Program to ensure their practice remains up-to-date. RRTs are part of a multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive diagnostic tests, treatments and educating patients with asthma, COPD and other respiratory conditions.
Gaining education about your respiratory condition occurs at the bedside or as an out-patient in Ambulatory Care. CRE’s focus on improving quality of life and helping patients cope with their diagnosis - mainly Asthma and COPD.
Pulmonary Function Tests are done in Ambulatory Care for patients with a physician referral.
RRT’s are available 24/7 to assess and treat patients with respiratory conditions, including newborns, paediatric patients, and critically ill patients in the ICU and Emergency Department.
RRT’s provide support in:
  • Adult Intensive Care Unit
  • Labor and Delivery Unit
  • Emergency Department
  • Medical/Surgical/Paediatric ward
  • Pulmonary Function Testing
  • The Operating Room
  • Code Blue/Code Pink Arrest Teams
