Cell Phones

Patients and visitors are able to safely use cell phones and handheld wireless devices in the main lobbies, cafeteria, waiting areas, and patient rooms (except obstetrics patients) at both sites. Use is prohibited in some patient care areas, such as the Intensive Care Unit, Obstetrics birthing suites and nursery and the clinical areas of the Emergency Department, because of the type of monitoring and life support equipment used in the department. Signage throughout the facility will notify patients and visitors of the cell phone and wireless devices restricted areas.  When entering these areas your wireless transmitting device will need to be powered off as it sends a periodic signal when it is turned on.

We encourage all patients and visitors to turn their cell phone ringer off (vibrate mode) out of courtesy to others. To protect patient confidentiality, patients and visitors are not allowed to take still or motion photographs with their cell phone.

Municipal bylaw officers may ticket vehicles that are in violation of the parking bylaw. Headwaters Health Care Centre does not have the authority to withdraw or cancel a municipal parking ticket.

Money raised through parking lot revenues are used to fund patient services at the hospital.

Scent-free Policy

In support of our commitment to health promotion and a healthy and safe environment, Headwaters Health Care Centre maintains a scent free policy. Patients, visitors, employees, medical staff and volunteers in our hospital are requested to refrain from the use of scented perfumes, deodorants, after-shave lotions and other scented personal hygiene products. Scented products contain certain chemicals that trigger symptoms in people with migraine headaches, allergies, and asthma and other respiratory disorders - sometimes requiring emergency treatment.

When sending/bringing flowers or bouquets to patients choose low-scent flowers. Strong scented flowers NOT allowed include freesia, lilacs, lavenders, lilies, hyacinth and peonies.

Smoking

Headwaters Health Care Centre is committed to demonstrating leadership in health promotion and disease prevention. As of May 31, 2007, Headwaters Health Care Centre is smoke-free on all hospital property. Smoking is not allowed inside the hospital or outside on hospital grounds, including the gardens, parking lots, vehicles, the medical clinic, the Rolling Hills Child Care Centre, and the sidewalks and roadways within the boundaries of both hospital sites.

Telephones

For the protection of our patients, please do not visit if you have a cough, flu-like symptoms or any other illness that can be easily spread. Signage directs everyone entering the hospital to self-screen (read and answer the questions posted on the sign) and you are asked to wash your hands (hand-washing dispensers are provided) before entering and exiting all patient care areas.
