Many volunteers contribute their time and talents to make your stay at Headwaters Health Care Centre as comfortable as possible. They are men and women from teenage to retirement age who work without pay. You will recognize our Auxiliary volunteers by their teal uniforms.

Some of the many services provided by our volunteers include:

  • Escort – taking you to a diagnostic test

  • Delivering flowers and mail

  • Answering questions at the Information Desk

  • Operating the Gift Shop

  • Operating the Coffee Bar

Cell Phones

Patients and visitors are able to safely use cell phones and handheld wireless devices in the main lobbies, cafeteria, waiting areas, and patient rooms (except obstetrics patients) at both sites. Use is prohibited in some patient care areas, such as the Intensive Care Unit, Obstetrics birthing suites and nursery and the clinical areas of the Emergency Department, because of the type of monitoring and life support equipment used in the department. Signage throughout the facility will notify patients and visitors of the cell phone and wireless devices restricted areas.  When entering these areas your wireless transmitting device will need to be powered off as it sends a periodic signal when it is turned on.

We encourage all patients and visitors to turn their cell phone ringer off (vibrate mode) out of courtesy to others. To protect patient confidentiality, patients and visitors are not allowed to take still or motion photographs with their cell phone.

Hearing Assistance and Interpreters

If you have difficulty hearing or are deaf, advise a member of your health care team who will make arrangements to help you communicate while you are at our hospital.

To ensure clear communication between patients, family and staff, the hospital maintains a list of personnel and volunteers who are able to provide interpreter services. If you require this service, please advise a member of your health care team.

Patient Transportation

Patients who have appointments not related to their inpatient medical treatment are responsible for their transportation. If the patient can ride in a vehicle, friends and family can drive them to a scheduled appointment not related to their inpatient care. Through Caledon Community Services and Dufferin County Community Support Services, residents have access to transportation services. If a patient requires transportation assistance, the hospital can provide a list of local patient transfer companies (patient transportation brochure), for which the patient will be billed directly. If the patient doesn't wish to arrange transportation they may reschedule their appointment for another date.

Scent-free Policy

In support of our commitment to health promotion and a healthy and safe environment, Headwaters Health Care Centre maintains a scent free policy. Patients, visitors, employees, medical staff and volunteers in our hospital are requested to refrain from the use of scented perfumes, deodorants, after-shave lotions and other scented personal hygiene products. Scented products contain certain chemicals that trigger symptoms in people with migraine headaches, allergies, and asthma and other respiratory disorders - sometimes requiring emergency treatment.

When sending/bringing flowers or bouquets to patients choose low-scent flowers. Strong scented flowers NOT allowed include freesia, lilacs, lavenders, lilies, hyacinth and peonies.
