Headwaters Area Lions Clubs
Ophthalmology Project 2005
A special thank you to our
community for your ongoing support of your local area hospital. Prior to
the arrival of Dr. Seto in 2003, almost
all patients
with cataracts had to travel out of the community to receive care.
To
support Dr. Seto in his work, the Headwaters Area Lions Clubs
Ophthalmology Project was launched in March 2005. In the spirit of their
motto, "We Serve", 13 Lions Clubs representing 3 districts and
350 members from throughout the Headwaters area, joined together to raise
$243,000 to purchase much-needed ophthalmology equipment for Headwaters
Health Care Centre.
The
Lions initially thought it would take 5 years to raise the entire
$243,000. In an astounding show of community support, the Lions reached
their goal in only 7 months.
To
In addition to holding a raffle for a 2006 Ford Mustang GT and other
fundraising events undertaken by the Lions Clubs, a number of individuals
and community groups also made significant contributions to the project
including Camilla Women's Institute, Colbeck & Monticello Women's
Institute, Hockley Valley Women's Institute, Optimist Club of Caledon,
proceeds from the Flaming Flappers of Orangeville 2006 calendar, 2005 Dale
Hawerchuk Headwaters Golf Classic and the Shelburne Golf & Country
Club. As well, the Lions secured a grant of US$59,406 from the Lions Club
International Foundation.
The
equipment purchased included an SLT Duet Laser and an Integre Photocoagulation System.
