Headwaters Health Care Centre's Dr. Allen Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Orangeville, ON, January 15, 2010 – Headwaters Health Care Centre today announced that Dr. Lynn Allen of Headwaters’ Laboratory Services has received the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Ontario Society of Clinical Chemistry (OSCC).

Headwaters Health Care Centre’s President and CEO Cholly Boland said, "Dr. Allen has made significant contributions to our laboratory services at the hospital. We are pleased to support and congratulate Dr. Lynn Allen for her professional excellence and contributions to the field of chemistry.”

Dr. Allen, Laboratory Director at Headwaters played a key role in the hospital receiving lab accreditation for compliance with the Ontario Laboratory Accreditation quality management system requirements of QMP-LS (Quality Management Program - Laboratory Services). QMP-LS is a division of the Ontario Medical Association and serves as an agent of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) in providing quality management services including accreditation and education for licensed medical laboratories in Ontario.

“We are pleased by the feedback from the lab accreditation reviewers and will continue to focus on delivering high-quality laboratory services," said Boland.

Dr. Allen, a clinical chemist with Headwaters’ Laboratory Services, is a member of the QMP-LS Chemistry Committee and the Ontario Society of Clinical Chemists. In the hospital’s lab, she provides leadership in implementation of the quality management system, which is based on the international standard, ISO 9001. Lab staff plays a key role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease. Headwaters’ clinical laboratory technologists examine and analyze body fluids and cells. They look for microorganisms; analyze the chemical content of fluids; match blood for transfusions; and test for drug levels in the blood that show how a patient is responding to treatment; and relay the results to physicians.

Outside of the lab Dr. Allen is an avid traveler and enjoys visiting Costa Rica, Mexico and the UK with her husband. Recently they returned from a hiking trip in Patagonia.
