Dr. David Scott Award
Accepting Nominees
Orangeville, ON, March 26, 2009 – Recognize a leader in healthcare by
nominating them for the 2009 Dr. David Scott Award. Headwaters Health
Care Centre is asking members of the public to nominate individuals or
groups that have made a significant contribution to the health and
well-being of residents in Dufferin-Caledon.
This is a chance to say ‘thank you’ and recognize those who have made a
difference. The award was established in honor of Dr. David Scott’s many
years of dedicated service to his profession and the community. Since
2000, Headwaters has recognized the significant contributions of award
winners for their work in improving access to after-hours and long-term
care; charitable and volunteer support; physician recruitment; and
programs for organ donation, and prevention and treatment of sexual
assault and domestic violence.
Dr. Scott practiced general surgery in Orangeville from 1962 to 1997 and
continues to provide surgical assist at Headwaters Health Care Centre. A
life-long resident of Orangeville, Dr. Scott has provided outstanding
leadership in health care in our community, and currently serves as a
key member of the Greater Dufferin Area Physician Search Committee.
Past award
winners have been recognized for developing awareness, improving access
to care and spearheading volunteer and fundraising initiatives within
our communities. Previous recipients of the Dr. David Scott Award
include: Dr. Dirk Huyer in 2000 for his work with victims of sexual
abuse; Erna Baniulis in 2001 for her work to improve long term care in
our community; Ronnie Inglis in 2002 for her leadership in Emergency
Services, Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, and organ donation; Dr.
Faye Lindsey in 2003 for her work in physician recruitment; Headwaters
Health Care Centre Auxiliaries (Orangeville and Shelburne sites) in 2004
for the significant contribution volunteers have made to the hospital
for over fifty years; John (Doc) Gillies in 2005 for his charitable work
in the community, including overseeing the construction of the new
medical clinic; Don Stewart in 2006 for his outstanding contribution to
the hospital, and other community projects in Shelburne, many of which
were in support of health care; Dr. David Knox in 2007 for improving
access to care in the community by establishing an after-hours clinic;
and Dori Ebel in 2008 for her fundraising and volunteer leadership with
health care and children’s organizations, and her non-denominational
spiritual work with the hospital’s chaplaincy program.
The award is granted to an individual or organization that has made a
positive impact on the quality of local health care through their
service to the community, leadership and/or advocacy of health care
initiatives and services.
The deadline for
nominations will be April 30, 2009. The winner will be presented with
the award at the Hospital’s Annual General Meeting in June.
