Radiologist Joins Headwaters Health Care Centre

Orangeville, ON – Headwaters Health Care Centre is pleased to announce that Dr. Michael Stefanos, Radiologist has joined the Department of Diagnostic Imaging.

“Dr. Stefanos is a valuable addition to our Diagnostic Imaging Department,” said Dr. Jeff McKinnon, Chief of Staff at Headwaters. “His experience and skill level will enhance the services we are able to deliver to our community.”

Dr. Stefanos completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Toronto and is Royal College and American Board Certified in Diagnostic Radiology. He was Fellowship trained in Women’s Imaging at the University of Toronto at University Health Network and Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. Dr. Stefanos joins Headwaters after holding successful clinical positions at Credit Valley Hospital and Humber River Regional Hospital’s Radiology Departments.

Dr. Stefanos’ clinical specialties includes diagnostic breast imaging including mammography, MRI and Ultrasounds, as well as percutanous procedures, including MRI, ultrasound and stereotactic guided breast biopsies, and performing obstetrical imaging.

Headwaters recently opened our digital mammography room in November 2008 and in 2009 will be adding a 64-slice CT scan and nuclear medicine capabilities to expand our diagnostic imaging services. The nuclear medicine program will enable non-invasive cardiac assessment and allow us to take images of particular organ systems such as the brain, kidneys, heart, gallbladder, lungs and thyroid gland. Dr. Stefanos’ and the rest of our team of radiologists and technologists will allow us to provide the best service possible to our community,” said Scott Edmonstone, Manager of Diagnostic Imaging at Headwaters.

An experienced researcher, Dr. Stefanos has been involved in a variety of research projects including work on MRI in the surveillance of women with prior history of breast cancer which was presented at an international radiology conference.

“Dr. Stefanos is an integral part of our multi-disciplinary approach to providing comprehensive care,” says Edmonstone.

Headwaters’ Diagnostic Imaging Department is located on the main level of the hospital. Imaging services are provided on an inpatient, outpatient and emergency basis.
