Headwaters Health Care
Centre Offers Wireless Internet Access for Patients and Visitors
Orangeville,
ON, July 7, 2009 –
Headwaters Health Care
Centre
now
offers wireless Internet access for patients and visitors at its
Orangeville campus. For the convenience of patients and visitors,
patient rooms and family waiting areas, including Emergency, are now
wireless-enabled,” says Cindy Sabo, Vice President of Finance and
Information at Headwaters.
In a push toward patient-centered amenities, Headwaters now offers
technology convenience to patients and visitors thanks to the generous
donation of a hospital supporter.
Patients or visitors need to have their own laptop to connect to the
Internet service. Paediatric patients will have complimentary access to
a laptop on wheels and free Internet access during their stay. This will
allow them to keep in touch with their family, friends and school during
their hospital stay.
Many patients, especially those who are in the hospital for an extended
length of time, request Internet access to keep up with personal
business, stay in touch with families via e-mail and to maintain a sense
of normalcy.
“Technology is advancing and our patient population is more
technologically-savvy. When patients are in the hospital it is important
they have access to the outside world. Having wireless Internet access
will help patients maintain some normalcy in their life and keep them
connected to friends and family while they are in hospital,” says Sabo.
“Wireless Internet access is part of Headwaters’ commitment to a
high-quality patient experience,” said Cholly Boland, President and CEO
at Headwaters. “Headwaters’ technological sophistication, including
wireless availability, Digital Imaging, and Electronic Health Record
translate into high quality, advanced patient care.”
To maintain the highest level of security, the wireless network
available to the public is completely separate from the hospital
computer network. The paediatric computers will be equipped with Net
Nanny content watch to restrict material delivered over the Web. The
Hospital asks that patients and visitors using the wireless Internet
service with their personal computer respect the viewing policy of the
hospital and not access content that is harassing or objectionable.
