Dr. David Knox Awarded the 2007 Dr. David Scott Award
Orangeville, ON – The 2007 Dr. David
Scott Award was presented to Dr. David Knox today at Headwaters Health
Care Centre’s Annual General Meeting.
“This award recognizes the outstanding
contribution Dr. David Knox has made to advancing health care in our
community and at the hospital. In particular, Dr. Knox devoted 19 years
to operating an After Hours Clinic in Orangeville, is an active
participant in the education of family physicians, and is involved in
the recruitment of new physicians to our community. Many families in our
community have benefited from his dedication by having access to care
closer to home,” said Bob Baynham, President and CEO, Headwaters Health
Care Centre.
Dr. David
Knox established and operated the Fifth Avenue Medical Clinic from 1998
to 2007, serving an average of 12,000-14,000 patients a year. In
addition to his family practice, he has been active in physician
recruitment for our community. Since 1998, Dr. Knox has invited
University of Toronto Family Practice residents to take placements at
his family practice. One of the residents, Dr. David Stenning,
established his practice in our community. Dr. Knox has also recruited a
number of physicians to work in the hospital’s Emergency Department.
Dr. Knox
has served the hospital in several ways. He has worked in both the
Department of Obstetrics and the Emergency Department since 1984. In
1993, he was appointed Chair of the Emergency Department Program
Committee, and in 2004 was appointed Chief of Emergency. Dr. Knox has
served on the Medical Advisory Committee since 1993 and has been active
on several hospital committees. He was a Director of the hospital
Foundation from 1987-1994 and was Chair of the Foundation from
1994-1997.
An active
member of the community, as a member of the Rotary Club of Orangeville
Highlands, he Co-chaired the Canada Day Celebration in Orangeville from
1995-1998. He coached minor soccer for a number of years, and most
recently served on the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee (Orangeville) in
2002-2003.
The Dr. David Scott Award was created in
the fall of 1999 to recognize individuals or groups who have made an
outstanding contribution to the overall health and well-being of the
Dufferin-Caledon community.

Dr. David
Scott is a graduate of medicine from the University of Toronto (1956),
with a Fellowship in General Surgery (1962). He practiced general
surgery in Orangeville from 1962 to 1997 and continues to provide
surgical assist at Headwaters Health Care Centre. A life-long resident
of Orangeville, Dr. Scott has provided outstanding leadership in health
care in our community, and currently serves as a key member of the
Greater Dufferin Physician Search Committee.
