New Palliative Care Suite
Enhances Patient Care
Supporting Our Patients
and their Families at End of Life
Orangeville – Caring for a
loved one with a life-ending illness is a demanding and emotionally
challenging experience. To assist and guide families in our area through
this difficult event, Headwaters Health Care Centre has recently opened
a third palliative care suite at the Orangeville site.
“We have
received overwhelmingly positive feedback and support from our community
for the hospital’s Palliative Care Program,” said Bob Baynham, President
& CEO, Headwaters Health Care Centre. “The private palliative care suite
is a beautiful and comfortable environment for our palliative patients
and their families at the last stages of life.”
Palliative care is a special kind of health care for patients and their
families who are living with a life-threatening illness, usually at an
advanced stage. Our program provides the best quality of life for these
individuals by ensuring their comfort and dignity and providing them
with the physical, emotional and spiritual support they need.
The new
palliative care suite is located on the Eaton Wing. It is a home-like
environment where family members may stay overnight. The room is
equipped with a couch and reclining chair, television, microwave and
refrigerator. There are now three private palliative care suites at the
Orangeville site and one suite at the Shelburne site.
“This
wonderful new room has been made possible through the amazing support of
individuals from throughout the Headwaters area,” said Baynham. “Our
thanks are extended to the Laurenza family who raised the funds to
renovate and furnish this new suite."
