Welcome to our gardens and
grounds, built by volunteers for the Hospital and community. You
can help by donating time, money or product.
The gardens were initiated
in 1997. The creation of the Friendship Gardens was the idea of a
group of volunteers called Friends of Headwaters. Having raised
money to buy equipment and a critical care unit for the hospital, the
group looked at the beautiful new facility and saw the barren scenes
outside.
The first garden was the
Fountain Garden created in 1997 through fundraising and a generous
donation from the Kedwell Estate. The Arbor Garden was established
in 2001 through a donation from the Phillip Smith Foundation and
individual donors. In 2003, the Kids Garden was restored with a
donation from Ronald McDonald Charities and a fourth garden has just
been constructed outside of F wing.
The gardens were an
instant success with patients, staff and visitors. They make
Headwaters Health Care Centre a special place to receive care.
All fundraising, planning,
implementation and maintenance of the gardens have been done by the
Friends of Headwaters. Your donation make the greening of our
hospital possible. All donation over $50 will receive a tax
receipt. |

Fountain Garden
Built in 1998, this was our first garden.
The Fountain Garden was the beginning of the execution of our vision of
creating "rooms with a view" for patients and their families.
Today this garden provides a beautiful and peaceful oasis for everyone
to enjoy.
Arbour Garden
This garden was designed to allow people to
relax in the garden out of the rays of the sun. The many trees are
maturing and providing shade and beauty.
Moose Garden
A fun garden for kids of all ages. The
bright colourful flowers, many of which are scented, are blooming from
April to September. Our centrepiece moose, "Bruce McMoose", stands
in eco grass.
Anne's Garden
Designed and donated by Ann and John Clark
for F-wing patients to enjoy, many of whom are unable to leave their
rooms. This garden has many different textures and colours for all
seasons.

Liz's Garden
Our newest garden by Liz Knowles, for
everyone to enjoy in all seasons. The garden is beside the hallway
between the Chapel and the Cafe. It showcases many lovely
ornamental grasses, many spring bulbs and interesting perennials.
Cafe Garden
Originally built as a tribute to Nicola
Ross, the Friends of Headwater have taken over the care of this garden.
Many staff and visitors take breaks or enjoy a meal in the garden.
Healing Wheel of Trees
A tribute to our hospital and community,
this peaceful and environmental garden was built totally by volunteers.
The wheel (100 tons of lovely limestone) was erected under the
instruction of John Shaw-Rimmington, President of the Dry Stone Wall
Association, Canada.
Hill of Trees
Our dream for the hillside is to have
thousands of spring daffodils blooming around a magnificent variety of
trees. The hill offers beautiful views for patients, staff and
visitors and for people driving by the hospital. Our community
should should enjoy the hillside in the years to come.
