On September 30th, Shelburne-based organizers of “Help Smash Cancer” presented Joan Waechter, Chair of Headwaters Health Care Foundation with a cheque for $1,626.81, in support of Headwaters’ Cancer Care Program. “Help Smash Cancer” is the brainchild of Shelburne resident Carilyn Hill, who developed the idea as a way to give back to her community in memory of her parents who both passed away from cancer.
For a $10 donation to Headwaters, Carilyn and her sponsors invited supporters at the Shelburne Fall Fair to sign Help Smash Cancer’s Pink Powder Puff derby car with the name of a loved one touched by cancer.

Milone Marathon Raises $5,245 for Hospital Equipment

On September 15, Headwaters’ Doctors Stephen and Stephanie Milone gathered with the Foundation’s Past Chair Kathy Armstrong and local reporters to present a cheque for $5,245 for the purchase of new hospital equipment. The gift was raised through the Milone Half Marathon challenge, which took place in conjunction with the Mississauga Marathon earlier this year. The Milones launched the challenge to inspire their patients to run in the Mississauga Marathon as part of living a healthy, active lifestyle while still balancing family commitments and busy professional lives. The husband/wife physician team also successfully encouraged donations in support of Headwaters’ excellent health care in our community. Thank you, Stephen and Stephanie, for being role models for a healthier lifestyle and supporting our hospital!

Young Philanthropist Gifts $1,050.00 to Paediatrics Unit

Caitlin Morgante’s wish for her 11th birthday was to help purchase vital medical equipment for the Paediatrics Unit at Headwaters. Thanks to the help of her friends from Island Lake Public School, Caitlin made her wish come true by asking for a donation to Headwaters in lieu of birthday presents. This year was Caitlin’s fourth annual fundraiser, a tradition that this young philanthropist plans to continue. Caitlin’s goal is to raise $10,000 for the Paediatrics Unit at Headwaters. So far Caitlin is off to a fantastic start, having raised $3000 to date for our hospital!

From the Heart of Hockley to Headwaters: a $19,900 Gift for Hospital Equipment

On July 26th, the 16th Annual “From the Heart of Hockley” Charity Event drew considerable community support to raise a total of $60,000 for four local charitable causes. Headwaters Health Care Centre, Caritas, Meagan’s Walk and the Ontario Track 3 Ski Association were the chosen beneficiaries of this year’s golf and spa day fundraiser at the beautifully appointed Hockley Valley Resort. Headwaters Health Care Foundation received a generous $19,900 to purchase a birthing bed and four transport wheelchairs for our hospital. Thanks to Middlefield Resource Funds, the event’s presenting sponsor, and the near 240 participants who helped make this event possible.

9th Annual Mono Hills Golf Tournament Raises $20,380 "Fore" Headwaters.

On July 6th, 36 golfers gathered at Mono Hills Country Club for a sold-out charity golf tournament, raffle and silent auction. The event, held in partnership with Headwaters Auxiliary, raised $20,380.35 for the purchase of state-of-the-art medical equipment for Headwaters. Since its inception, the annual Mono Hills Golf Tournament has raised more than $120,000 for Headwaters!
While the morning threatened rain, sunny skies prevailed over the picturesque greens of the private residential golf course, which was generously donated for day’s event. Participants relished a fabulous luncheon, provided by dedicated volunteers from the Headwaters Auxiliary, before heading out onto the greens. The event concluded with an awards ceremony and cocktail reception to acknowledge the steadfast support and generosity of golfers and sponsors, a number of whom returned from the previous year.
The Foundation thanks and acknowledges Arthurs Fuel, our title sponsor this year, together with the many other sponsors who made this event possible.

On June 29, Headwaters received a phone call and a special gift from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 371 (Bolton). The Legion notified Headwaters Health Care Foundation that the Bolton Branch was closing its doors. Before they did, however, the Legion generously gifted $7,000 from its Poppy Fund for the purchase of two Complex Continuing Care wheelchairs and 4 transport wheelchairs for our patients at Headwaters.
