Peter Harris, Chair
Peter Harris specializes in income tax law and is a member of the Tax & Trusts Group. Peter currently practices with Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP in Toronto. He has a varied background in his tax practice including the financial services, automotive and real estate industries, and has experience litigating matters at all levels including the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Tax Court of Canada.

Peter has been a special advisor to the Department of National Revenue and the Department of Finance, and the Ontario Government on various financial matters. He has lectured to a variety of professional associations and institutes.

Peter is currently Chairman of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Taxation and Economics Committee, and has been a member of a number of committees and professional associations dealing with tax matters. He frequently speaks on taxation issues including cross-border and domestic income tax in both Canada and the United States. Peter has appeared on the CBC commenting on the federal budget.

Peter joined the Headwaters Health Care Centre’s Finance Committee in 2007. He was appointed to the Board of Directors in January 2009 to fill a vacancy and elected to the board in June 2009 for his first three-year term. Peter is a resident of Caledon.

Rob Hamilton, Vice-Chair
Rob has recently retired following thirty-two years in the automotive sector during which time he gained significant experience in the areas of production, material procurement and supply (including financial reconciliation), logistics, CAW contract administration and project management. Rob provided internal consulting at DaimlerChrysler in Germany and South Africa as well as facilities in the United States and Mexico. At the time of his retirement, Rob held the position of Senior Manager of Assembly Operation at Chrysler Assembly in Brampton. This role encompassed production, maintenance, tooling, quality engineering and associated budgets. Rob managed a staff of 1500 employees and an annual budget of $120 million.

Rob is a board member of the Alzheimer’s Society of Dufferin County.

Rob resides with his family in the town of Orangeville.

Steve Desrocher, Treasurer
Steve Desrocher is the President of ASI Technologies Inc., an information technology professional services firm located in Brampton that provides services to Canadian municipalities and other provincial and federal government organizations on subjects such as infrastructure asset management, investment optimization and the general practice of managing tangible capital assets.

Steve previously held positions with the Ontario Good Roads Association and the Ministry of Transportation.

Steve has a keen interest in transportation and public works infrastructure. He is a member of the Brampton Board of Trade participating on the Policy and Government Relations Committee, and was a member of Bethel House, Caledon Hospice Building Committee.

Steve was elected to the Board of Directors in June 2009. He lives in Inglewood with his family.

Louise Kindree, Past Chair
Louise retired in 2000 from the federal Public Service. Her career focused on Human Resources, specializing in values and ethics, as a national staffing policy advisor, and as a mediator and investigator for personal harassment cases. She is a member Chair of the community-based Dufferin Physician Search Committee, and was recently appointed Chair of the Data Management Sub-Committee.

Louise has been a member of the Headwaters Orangeville Auxiliary since her retirement. In addition to working in the Emergency Department and at the Information Desk, she held the executive position of Volunteer Coordinator from 2002 - 2004. She has represented the Auxiliary on the hospital’s Privacy Committee and is assisting with the development of the Auxiliary's Pandemic Plan.

Louise was elected to the Board of Directors in 2005 and is a resident of Caledon.

Liz Ruegg, Secretary
Liz was appointed interim President & CEO of Headwaters Health Care Centre in April 2011. As former Vice President of Patient Services and Chief Nursing Executive with Headwaters Health Care Centre since 2007, Liz has over 20 years of progressive management experience in community and rural hospitals. Prior to joining Headwaters in 2006 as the Professional Practice Coordinator, Liz was the Director of Patient Care Services with North Wellington Health Care. She is a corporate leader in lean quality improvement initiatives resulting in a significant reduction in wait times for patients in the Emergency Department and increased patient satisfaction. Liz has a proven record of success in leading quality initiatives and developing partnerships which improve wait times and access for patients.

Liz graduated from Ryerson University with a Masters in Nursing and completed the Advanced Health Leadership Program at the University of Toronto, Rotman School of Management. She is a past president of Wellington Chapter of RNAO and a member of the Nursing Leadership Network. Liz is a resident of Orangeville.

Joan Waechter, Foundation
Joan was elected Vice Chair of the Foundation Board of Directors for a term of two years. She works in her family business, Ideal Supply located in Listowel, with 23 branches serving the central and southwestern areas of Ontario. She is Vice President of Human Resources and has been with the company for 23 years.

Joan was elected to the Foundation Board in the fall of 2006 as Secretary and is currently a member of the Audit and Governance Committees. She was appointed to the Hospital Board of Directors in June 2011.

John Christie
John Christie is currently the Vice President, Supply Chain with ERCO Worldwide – a global leader in the supply of chemical technologies, products and solutions to industrial customers. John is a registered professional engineer with a background in project and construction management, facility management, sales and marketing, regulatory, health, safety and environmental compliance.

John has a lengthy track record of community service with such organizations as Big Brothers, Dufferin Child and Family Services, Choices Youth Shelter and Family Transition Place just to name a few. John is an emergency first aid provider with specialized training in scuba diving and military first aid. John is a part-time farmer and beekeeper.

John was elected to the Hospital Board of Directors in June 2011. He resides with his family in Orangeville.

Dr. Ken Derksen
Dr. Derksen has been an active staff member in the department of family medicine at the hospital since 1993, and Lead Physician at Orangeville Family Medical Practice and board member of the Dufferin Area Family Health Team (Chair 2006-2008). He received his degree from the University of Western Ontario (1982) and completed his postgraduate internal medicine fellowship at the University of Toronto (1986).

Dr. Derksen was appointed to the Board of Directors in June 2010. He lives with his family in Orangeville.

Ron Hay, Auxiliary
Ron is President of the Headwaters Health Care Auxiliary, Orangeville. He has been a member of the Orangeville Auxiliary for many years. His volunteer activities have included the information desk and portering. Ron is a resident of Shelburne.

Angella Hughes
Angella is currently President and CEO of Xogen Technologies Inc., a research and development company in the area of wastewater treatment and hydrogen fuel generation. She has also held senior positions with Xogen Power in Calgary and Boeing in California.

Angella holds a degree in Mathematics from the University of Waterloo. She served on the Board of Governors of Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology from 2002-2004, and is a member of their Department of Electrical Engineering, Technology Advisory Committee.

She was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2005 to fill a vacancy and was elected to the Board in 2006. Angella is a resident of Rosemont.

Elizabeth Hull
Elizabeth has a private consulting practice with over twenty-five years of experience in the public and not-for-profit sector. She has worked primarily in the health and social services field, and has completed work for the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, the Region of Peel, Children’s Aid Society of Peel and the Department of National Defense. From 2003-2005, she was a Mental Health and Addiction Consultant for Central West Office of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

Elizabeth served as a Trustee, Peel Board of Education, from 1980 to 1985.
 
Elizabeth was elected to the Board of Directors in 2006. Elizabeth is a resident of Caledon.

John Innes
John Innes is the Logistics Network Manager for General Mills Canada. He holds an MBA and Mechanical Engineering degrees, and has twenty years of diverse engineering and management experience including capital project leadership, strategic planning, and contract negotiation. John has worked with NORCOM/CDT and Ontario Hydro.

John was elected to the Board of Directors in June 2011. He lives in Orangeville with his family.

Terry Irwin
Terry Irwin began his firefighting career in 1970 as a volunteer firefighter in the Village of Inglewood. In 1976, he joined the Brampton Fire Department and worked his way through the ranks being promoted to Captain in 1985; District Chief in 1993, Deputy Chief in 1995 and Fire Chief in 2003 – a position he held until his retirement in October 2008.

During Terry’s career with Brampton Fire, he was instrumental in establishing the High Level Rescue Team in addition to being a member of the rappelling team that set a world record in 1985 by rappelling off the CN Tower. Terry has participated on numerous provincial and international firefighting committees over the years. He was also Chair of a committee that established standards for rope rescue equipment for emergency services that was adopted by the Underwriters Laboratories of Canada.

Terry was elected to the Board of Directors in June 2009. He lives in Inglewood with his family.

Bonnie Ledson
Bonnie Ledson began her teaching career with the Peel Board of Education. Bonnie was also a Resource Teacher, a consultative position focused on enabling struggling teachers and new teachers. In the early 1990's, Bonnie was promoted to Vice Principal at Alloa Public School in Snelgrove and then Principal at William’s Parkway in Bramalea. Bonnie earned her Masters of Education from Brock University.

Since her retirement in the late 90’s, Bonnie and her husband have supported Headwaters Health Care Centre and work to encourage others to do their part to support the hospital. Bonnie has been a member of the Foundation Board, a member of the Gala Dinner and Auction Committee and now a member of the Foundation Senate.

In June 2009, Bonnie was elected to the Board of Directors. Bonnie and her husband George have been residents of Caledon since 1972.

Dr. Dan Mallin
Dr. Mallin started a family practice in Grand Valley in 1995, part of Grand Valley Medical-Dental. Dr. Mallin was the former Chief of Family Practice at both Toronto General and Headwaters Health Care Centre. He is the site co-ordinator for the local branch of the University of Toronto's Department of Family Medicine's Rural Residency Program. Dr. Mallin was instrumental in creating the Dufferin Area Family Health Team and the Highlands Health Clinic in Orangeville. He has served as President of the Dufferin Area Family Health Team since 2006.

Dr. Mallin introduced a Medical Residency Program that has contributed to the recruitment of Family Physicians to Orangeville, Caledon and Grand Valley. Dr. Mallin is an advocate for local access to care, he has recruited physicians and health care providers, and preceptored medical students and residents. He volunteers many hours to lecturing and providing leadership to medical students.

Dr. Mallin was appointed to the board in 2010. He is a resident of Orangeville.

Frans Richter
Frans Richter is Territory and Product Manager for the Gambro Intensive Care Division, a global medical technology company and a leader in developing, manufacturing and supplying products and therapies related to kidney and liver disease. Frans has gained valuable experience by managing and controlling different projects and departments in profit and non-profit organizations.

He was certified and trained as a registered nurse in the Netherlands. He worked for sixteen years in Cardiac Care and Intensive Care units, and seven years as a nurse manager in a Dialysis Unit, all in a University Hospital.

Frans is a Canadian ski patroller and is fluent in both English and Dutch.

He was elected to the Hospital Board of Directors in June 2011. Frans lives with his family in Grand Valley.

Bill Roy
Bill Roy is a retired business professional with more than forty years experience in a variety of organizations.

Bill received his BSc. and Management Diploma from McGill University. His work career has focused strongly on Human Resources Management and he attained the CHRP designation. Bill’s career has included management roles with Farr Company, Joy Manufacturing, Magna International, SunarHauserman, and Electrohome. Most recently, Bill was involved in the start up of the KTH Shelburne Manufacturing plant and served as Vice President/Plant Manager and lastly as Vice President of Administration.

Bill has been an active Rotarian for more than twenty years including the past eleven years with the Shelburne Rotary Club. Bill serves on the Shelburne Economic Development Committee, the Dufferin County Manufacturers Association and the greater Dufferin Area Chamber of Commerce.

Bill was elected to the Board of Directors in June 2009. He resides with his wife in Orangeville.

Bill Waite
Bill has spent his entire adult life working in the Aerospace and Defense Industry. For the past five years, he has held the position of Director of Program Planning, Contract and Subcontracts at MDA Space Missions (Brampton). He has vast knowledge and experience in strategic planning, human resources and labour negotiations, production and operations. During a fourteen month time period, Bill served as Director of Operations for the Houston office providing engineering services to NASA.

Bill is currently a member of the Rotary Club of Shelburne.

Bill was elected to the Board of Directors in June 2009. He resides with his family in the town of Shelburne.
