Director Human Resources

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Director of Human Resources is part of the Senior Management Team providing strategic direction and leadership for the Hospital. Human Resources, Occupational Health and Safety, and Central Scheduling report to the Director of Human Resources. This individual is responsible for the planning and implementation of policies, procedures and programs that support the hospitals strategic plan, mission, vision and values.  Key strengths necessary for success in this role include a proven track record in Labour Relations, Occupational Health & Safety, Recruitment, and Organizational Development.

Responsibilities include:

  • Initiation, development and implementation of hospital-wide programs in line with legislative requirements, collective agreement terms and human resource best practices;

  • Providing leadership in employee/labour relations including the administration of four collective agreements;

  • Coaching and mentoring Managers and Senior Leadership on all human resource issues including interpretation of collective agreements, HR policies and procedures, performance and attendance management, progressive discipline and employee development;

  • Providing leadership and direction to the Human Resources, Occupational Health and Safety and Central Scheduling department staff to ensure that the departments’ strategies, goals and objectives, policies, procedures and programs are implemented and communicated efficiently and effectively;

  • Provides leadership and direction to Occupational Health Service regarding compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, investigation of work-related incidents/accidents and is an active member of the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee;

  • Develops strategies for the efficient and effective recruitment, selection and retention of staff;

  • Provides leadership in the development and implementation of a compensation structure that is cost effective legislatively compliant and competitive to meet the hospitals recruitment and retention strategy.

  • The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications/experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive experience with a strong generalist background required;

  • Experience in Healthcare or not-for-profit sector preferred;

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in an HR leadership role required;

  • A Bachelors Degree in a related field, and CHRP Designation required;

  • Expert level knowledge and experience in labour relations and the collective bargaining process;

  • Solid working knowledge of all relevant legislation (ESA, Ontario Labour Relations Act, Hospitals Labour Disputes Arbitration Act, the Human Rights Code, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act);

  • Expertise in health & safety including WSIB and disability management processes;

  • Excellent team building, interpersonal and problem solving skills;

  • Well developed written and verbal communications skills with experience conducting presentations for all levels of the organization including at the Senior Management and Board level.

    Manager - Pharmacy

    Reporting to the Vice President Patient Services & Chief Nursing Executive you will provide leadership for planning, allocation of resources, utilization and efficiency of all components of the Pharmacy Department.

    You will coordinate and evaluate opportunities for continuous improvement utilizing the quality improvement process. You will ensure that the Pharmacists Standards of Practice are maintained and encourage excellence in practice and patient safety.

    You have a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and are currently registered with the Ontario College of Pharmacists. You have two years clinical experience in a hospital setting and current administrative management experience. Your facilitation and presentation skills are well developed and you have experience in coaching and mentoring staff. You demonstrate effective negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution skills. Your strong professional communication and interpersonal skills and your ability to foster and develop effective team's based on trust and accountability are integral to your success.

    At Headwaters, Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses function at full scope of practice. A collaborative model of care provides continuity of care provider and enhanced patient centred care. A shared model of decision-making is present throughout the nursing units and within the Nursing Practice Council. Headwaters supports a learning environment and evidenced based practice.
